PBIS

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based tiered framework for improving practices affecting student outcomes every day. At its heart, PBIS is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrives.

PBIS recognizes that kids can meet behavior expectations if they know what the expectations are. A hallmark of a school using PBIS is that everyone knows what’s appropriate behavior.

Here at Burbank Elementary we S.W.I.M. daily. That's right, we Show Respect, Work Hard, Interact Positively, and Make a Difference. It's all part of our Positive Interventions and Supports, or PBIS, campaign. We specifically teach behaviors that are expected of our students while they are here on campus in a positive manner. For example, instead of saying "No running in the hallway!", we phrase it as "Thank you for walking in the hallway." When we observe positive behaviors, we recognize the students by issuing them a "SWIM Card". The completed SWIM Card goes into a weekly raffle for some really neat prizes. Come SWIM With Us!
